Stake Conference has been awesome so far!

 Hey William,

Tonight was the first part of our stake conference, our first one as the Porter's Crossing Stake and it was awesome.  The Saturday night adult session is always my favorite part of stake conferences.  Did you get to go to the Saturday night session this time?

The focus of the adult session was about the temple.  McKenna Law was the first speaker.  Her first adult session of Stake conference, and she got to speak...lucky!  She talked about her experience going to the temple.  She talked about how she didn't go because of a mission or because she was getting married, she went because she wanted to and she felt like something was missing from her life.  She talked about how people tried to talk her out of it, saying things like, "You're going in July?  Wearing garments will make you so hot in July, and you won't get to wear tank tops anymore!"  I loved that she chose to go anyway.  She chose to go for herself and not for anyone else.

That got me thinking about you and your temple experience.  I know that after HS, things were a bit rushed, and I hope that you felt ready and had a true desire to go to the temple to receive your endowment.  If you felt like you needed to because we pushed you, I am sorry.  I definitely didn't mean to do that.  The choice to go to the temple should be between you and the Lord, and I'm sorry if we rushed you to go before you had a chance to decide if you were ready or not.

I hope that you still felt the love of the Savior there, and I hope you got to understand a tiny bit more of it when you got to go a couple more times before you got to Florida.  After sitting in Stake conference tonight and hearing all the wonderful things about the temple and the blessings that come into our lives because of the covenants we make and keep there, I thought it was very timely that this BYU devotional that was from just a couple weeks ago was all about the temple.  I thought it might be fun for you to study about the temple since you don't get a chance to go and learn at the temple right now, you can learn more about it in your personal study time.   This talk is great, but there is even more to study in the footnotes.  Lots of great stuff, so I suggest you go there after you read it.

Here are a few more favorites from stake conference that I loved:

" The reward for keeping our covenants is power from Heavenly Father."

A quote shared twice in stake conference came from President Emily Belle Freeman, the Young Women general president of the Church in her recent conference talk:
"Why should I walk a covenant path? Do I need to enter a house for making covenants? Why do I wear the holy garment? Should I invest in a covenant relationship with the Lord? The answer to these good and important questions is simple: it depends on what degree of relationship you want to experience with Jesus Christ.18 Each of us will have to discover our own response to those deeply personal questions."

Also, the Liberty Farms YW sang the song Teach me about the temple.  If you remember, some YW from the stake sang this song at the Saratoga Temple in a video at stake conference 2 yrs ago.  I sent you the MP3 of the church's version.  It wouldn't let me download the one from our stake from youtube unfortunately.  (sidenote, still trying to figure out how to do your Amazon playlist songs, I haven't forgotten).

Anyway, here is that talk.  I hope you enjoy it.  make sure you read the footnotes too.  There is lots more stuff to learn about the temple in the footnotes.  I kind of figure, if you can't go to the temple right now, because you are focused on the living, not the dead right now, the next best thing to learn more about the temple is to study about it.

Love you so much!
